Brief Project/Internship Description: This is an Intern Designer position in Pratt & Whitney Engineering supporting the development of world class jet engine systems. This associate will be responsible for designing hardware that meets or exceeds module and system requirements and will work collaboratively to solve problems with integrated product teams and system design teams. The job entails creating new part designs; executing Class I & II Engineering Changes (EC’s); and providing shop, vendor, and test support as needed. The candidate will be responsible for all aspects of the design and executing to engineering standard work. The designer will be expected to perform preliminary structural analyses. He or she also will be expected to coordinate with all supporting disciplines such as Aerodynamics, Heat Transfer & Secondary Flow, Structures, Engineering Dynamics & Loads, and Manufacturing. To ensure design robustness the candidate must be savvy in design for variability and automated design optimization methods.
Required Qualifications: Anticipated full-time student during 2018 Spring semester enrolled in an academic affiliate college/university with a minimum cumulative 3.0 GPA. U.S. citizenship is required. Candidates should be pursuing a BS degree in Aerospace or Mechanical Engineering.
Preferred Qualifications: Design engineering experience with proficiency in Teamcenter, Unigraphics, Ansys, and classical methods of analysis preferred. Turbo-machinery design experience and automated design optimization skills is a plus. Candidate should have excellent communication and interpersonal skills. A broad understanding of hardware, blueprints and manufacturing methods is desired.

Brief Project/Internship Description: This is a Structures Analyst Internship position in Pratt & Whitney Engineering supporting the development of world class jet engine systems. The intern will provide structures analytical support for commercial or military programs, with responsibility for the durability and structural integrity of gas-turbine components. Responsibilities include: providing analytical support for preliminary & detailed design through all phases, including development, validation, certification, manufacturing and operational service; validation testing and data correlation with analytical models; support root-cause investigations for operational engines; identify corrective actions; performing FEA and classical method analyses for strength, stress/deflection, vibration, fatigue life, crack growth, containment, kinematic and optimization analyses; identify design solutions, with multi-discipline teams, that balance customer requirements for durability, performance, cost and weight. Document and presentation of results and recommendations to company leadership and external customers will be expected.
Required Qualifications: Anticipated full-time student during 2018 Spring semester enrolled in an academic affiliate institution with a minimum cumulative 3.0 GPA. U.S. citizenship is required. Currently enrolled, with a minimum of 1 semester completed, in a BS in Mechanical or Aerospace Engineering (or equivalent).
Preferred Qualifications: Good problem solving skills, and an enthusiasm to learn. Coursework or experience with the following is a plus: Structural Analysis, Vibration, FEA for stress/deflection, fatigue, fracture mechanics or kinematics.
