Brief Project/Internship Description: ISR & Space Systems Houston is looking for an energetic and highly motivated candidate for its Engineering Organization. The Mechanical Design Intern will be responsible for Mechanical Engineering activities associated with installation, design, development, and qualification testing or field support of components for the Space Suit Extravehicular Mobility unit (EMU), the Universal Waste Management System (UWMS) for NASA’s Crew Exploration Vehicle, or life support assemblies on board NASA’s International Space Station. Core responsibilities will include development of conceptual design layouts, parts/assembly drawings, and drafting documentation; providing of structural analysis support using in house FEA tools; and providing executive summary presentation at completion of internship to ISR & Space Systems Engineering Management.

Required Qualifications: Anticipated full-time student during 2018 Spring semester enrolled in an academic affiliate college/university with a minimum cumulative 3.0 GPA. U.S. citizenship is required. Pursuing an engineering degree, preferably in Mechanical Engineering. Must either hold a current US DoD clearance or must be able to obtain and maintain a clearance if required, and successfully complete a U.S. government background investigation. This job is considered a sensitive position in accordance with NASA Guidelines. The selected candidate will be subject to drug and alcohol testing per NASA’s regulation subpart 1823.5 Drug-Free Workforce.
Preferred Qualifications: The successful candidate will possess a positive “can do” attitude, good presentation skills, respect for others, confidence, and patience. Knowledgeable in basic 3-D CAD modeling fundamentals (preferably Pro-E), stress and fatigue analysis, machine design, and material selection. Competence in use of NASTRAN, ANSYS, or simulate stress analysis packages desired in aerospace structures and engineering fluid component design preferred.

Manufacturing Engineering Intern
Start/End Dates: Summer 2018

Brief Project/Internship Description: Job assignments will include supporting the Operations team of Manufacturing Engineers with current programs for the Space Systems business in Windsor Locks, CT. The main focus of this position will be to understand and execute manufacturing policies, procedures, processes, and tools. Process improvement and the tools to improve/augment manufacturing procedures, as well as assembly instructions, will be a required mindset for functioning within the Operations team.
Required Qualifications: Full-time student during 2018 Spring semester enrolled in an academic affiliate institution with a minimum cumulative 3.0 GPA. U.S. citizenship is required. Applicable coursework in related field to Mechanical Engineering or Operations. Pursuing a BS in Engineering (Electrical, Mechanical, Manufacturing, or Industrial).
