International Observe the Moon Night is Happening on October 1, 2022!

International Observe the Moon Night is an annual event for Moon enthusiasts and curious people worldwide. It’s an opportunity to learn about lunar science and exploration, take part in celestial observations, and honor cultural and personal connections to the Moon.

Your library can help NASA CT Space Grant Consortium spread the word about this worldwide event!  NASA provides lunar lovers with 10 Ways to Observe the Moon on their website. There are several ways you can participate in Observe the Moon Night:

  • Register to host an event on October 1 for your community to observe the moon. You can learn more about how to host an event from NASA.
  • View live streams from supporters across the USA. You can view past event information online from the NASA website.
  • Join or view the conversation on social media using #ObserveTheMoon to explore lunar views and art from around the world.
  • Encourage your library’s patrons to participate in this event and share their photos of the moon as part of the CTSGC Observe the Moon Photo Contest.

Join the 2022 NASA CT Space Grant Consortium (CTSGC) Observe the Moon Library Display Contest!

We have some ways to help you generate some excitement in your library about the moon, and earn NASA items and prizes for your library in the process!

NASA CT Space Grant Consortium (CTSGC) is sponsoring a Library Display Contest to highlight the amazingly creative librarians in our state.

  • Register your library using this link for our display contest and the first 10 applicants will also receive some NASA-branded items for their library. That’s some fun things you can share with your patrons or use for your library programs.
  • Create a display in your library to celebrate International Observe the Moon Night – use moon-themed books, artwork and other creative elements to create an eye-catching display for your patrons.
  • Share photos of your display on or before September 24 to your own social media accounts (be sure to tag Connecticut Space Grant!) and you will have a chance to earn prizes!

Rules for entry:

  • You must pre-register your library on or before September 24, 2022 using this link to be eligible.
  • Your moon-themed library display photo must be shared from your library’s social media (Instagram, Facebook and/or Twitter) on or before September 24, 2022. (Winners will be announced by Oct. 8)
  • Posted photos must tag us (Facebook: @SpaceGrantCT; Twitter or Instagram: @CTSpaceGrant) to be considered.
