CTSGC Internship Opportunities

The Connecticut Space Grant Consortium (CTSGC) partners with Connecticut-based industries, businesses, research organizations, nonprofit organizations, and educational institutions to provide paid internship opportunities that offer students valuable hands-on experience in STEM-related fields.

Internship positions are posted on a rolling basis as opportunities become available. Students may apply for internships that align with their academic interests, career goals, and experience. These internships are designed to complement classroom learning while helping students develop technical, professional, and workplace skills.

Interns are required to work full-time for a minimum of 10 weeks at their assigned internship site. Remote or virtual internships are not eligible for CTSGC funding.

Eligible applicants must:

  • Be enrolled full-time at a CTSGC-affiliated institution during the Spring 2027 semester
  • Be a U.S. citizen
  • Have completed at least one semester of coursework
  • Demonstrate a strong academic record (3.0 GPA preferred)

Interns receive a minimum award of $7,000.

Internship Categories

Technical Internships

Technical internships provide hands-on experience in engineering, advanced manufacturing, technology, and other STEM-related fields. Priority is given to community college students enrolled in associate degree or certificate programs at CTSGC-affiliated institutions. If positions remain available, undergraduate and graduate students may also be considered.

Industrial Internships

Industrial internships place students with Connecticut companies and organizations where they gain practical experience while contributing to real-world projects.

Eligible Applicants: Undergraduate and graduate students enrolled at CTSGC-affiliated institutions.

Educational Internships

Educational internships provide opportunities with museums, science centers, educational organizations, and outreach programs focused on STEM education and public engagement.

Program Goals

The CTSGC Internship Program is designed to:

  • Provide meaningful experiential learning opportunities in STEM and STEM-related fields.
  • Strengthen connections between students and Connecticut's STEM workforce.
  • Increase awareness of NASA-related career pathways and opportunities.
  • Develop technical, professional, and leadership skills.
  • Support community college, undergraduate, and graduate students in pursuing careers in STEM.

Internship availability is dependent upon available funding, partner participation, and project availability.

Eligibility Requirements

Applicants must:

  • Be enrolled full-time at a CTSGC member institution.
  • Be a U.S. citizen.
  • Have completed at least one semester of college coursework.
  • Submit a transcript showing completed coursework and current enrollment.
  • Demonstrate a strong academic record.

Because a college transcript is required, first-semester students are not eligible to apply.

Applicants selected for funding will also be required to provide proof of U.S. citizenship to their Campus Director as part of the award verification process.

Required Application Materials

Personal Narrative (Maximum 3 Pages)

The narrative should describe your interests, qualifications, experiences, and career goals. It should be written broadly enough to apply to multiple internship opportunities.

Please address:

  • Why you are interested in an internship experience.
  • Why you should be selected for an internship opportunity.
  • How the internship will enhance your knowledge, skills, and experience.
  • How the internship supports your long-term academic and career goals.
  • Relevant technical coursework you have completed.
  • How your areas of interest align with your future educational and career plans.

Please do not reference a specific company, organization, or internship position within your narrative.

Opportunity Statement (Optional)

Applicants may submit an additional statement expressing interest in a specific internship opportunity.

Recommendation

One recommendation is required.

Applicants will provide the recommender's email address within the application. Recommenders will receive a secure link to submit their recommendation directly through the application system. Recommendations must be submitted within seven days of receiving the request.

Resume or Curriculum Vitae

A one-page resume or curriculum vitae is required.

Applications containing resumes that exceed the one-page limit may not be considered.

Student Transcript

Official transcripts are preferred; unofficial transcripts are acceptable if an official transcript is not readily available.

Transcripts must:

  • Include completed coursework
  • Show current course enrollment
  • Be uploaded in a non-encrypted format

Degree audits will not be accepted in place of a transcript.

Students interested in internships at a NASA Center should apply directly through NASA's internship program.
